Presentation of Ecorkwaste project at CTM
The Technological Center of Manresa - Eurecat hosted last November 8th a Technical Conference of LIFE Projects under the title "Water, waste and circular economy".
The goal of the meeting was to present LIFE sustainability projects that are currently being carried out and it was within this framework that Ecorkwaste was presented along with 12 other projects.
The day was divided into two themes: "efficient water management" and "waste and circular economy". Ecorkwaste project was presented in the latter by Jordi Morató, researcher at the UPC and Coordinator of the Unesco Chair in Sustainability, and Santiago Sahuquillo, Head of R&D Projects at Typsa.
The presentations focused on showing the possibilites of use of the by-product of granulated cork by demonstrating its technical, environmental and economic feasibility.
On one hand, the by-product of cork in different granulometries will be used as absorbent material in wetlands for the removal of organic compounds in a wastewater treatment system. And, on the other hand, it will be used as a resource for generating energy by a gasification process of the different cork granulometry.
This project involves UPC, Catalan Institute of Cork, CTM Foundation Technological Centre (member of Tecnio network), Typsa company, and the Catalan Cluster INNOVI.
LIFE program is an initiative of the European Commission to promote research and innovation projects applied to the conservation of the environment and the fight against climate change. The program began in 1992 and has a budget of 3,400 million euros for the period 2014-2020.
