We have celebrated Ecorkwaste Openday
A group of students from Superior Grade of Accounting and Finance from IES Terrassa have been the protagonists of the OpenDay 2018 project Ecorkwaste.
The day began with a talk by Jordi Morató, coordinator of UNESCO Chair of Sustainability of Polytechnic University of Catalonia-BarcelonaTech and Technical Coordinator of Ecorkwaste project, which presented the objective of Life+ Program of the European Union and different concepts related to the circular economy.
Morató explained how the European regulation wants to promote waste 0 with different regulatory changes and how this implies a redesign of the products and their manufacturing process, so that once the product's life cycle has ended, all its material components can be recycled and / or reused again.
In the talk, special emphasis has been placed on how Ecorkwaste is integrated within the framework of promoting circular economy, given that 60% of the cork produced to make cork and cava stoppers is not used and Ecorkwaste is looking for a way to value the byproduct of this industry.
After the talk, divided into two groups, the students moved to the treatment wetland in the wastewater treatment area of Codorníu. There, Professor Morató explained the functioning of the wetland, which through the cork purifies wastewater from the productive process to Codorníu and explained the different phases of the project and that the preliminary results are being very positive.
Students were very surprised to see how the wetland is completely autonomous, given that it is powered by solar energy, and how it is managed remotely via internet and satellite connection.
