EC advisor positively values the preliminary results of Ecorkwaste project
This October we have received the visit of an advisor from the European Union on the follow-up of Life+ projects.
The first part of the meeting was held in the facilities of Codorníu where the artificial wetland has been located, in this way, the Consortium and the consultant have checked its operation in situ.
Then, the meeting has continued at the CTM facilities in Manresa, where the representatives of the different organizations and companies of the project Consortium formed by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the CTM Foundation, TYPSA, the Catalan Institute of Cork and INNOVI have participated.
The first part of the meeting focused on showing the EU advisor the construction, installation, operation and evaluation of the pilot wetland located in Codorníu, where a tertiary water treatment is being carried out to improve the quality of the final effluents in the existing treatment plant in the Codorníu winery. The wetland has been filled with cork granules and is, in large part, responsible for the improvement of water quality.
During the development of the projecte 200m3 of residual waste from the cellar have been treated, and preliminary results have shown a 95% elimination of pesticides and a 90% elimination of COD.
Through photographs, diagrams and different presentations, the technical team of the project has shown to the EU advisor the upper opening of the container, the control room, the functional scheme and the evolution in terms of monitored parameters such as COD, BOD, pesticides, heavy metals, microbial activity, etc.
After that, during the visit to the gasification pilot plant, the small details of the start-up and operation have been indicated, ending with the actions planned for the future.
With regard to the preliminary results, a quality SYNGAS has been obtained for use in cogeneration engines with an average calorific value (LCP) of 4,943 kJ / m3 or 8748.7 kJ / kg of cork.
The meeting ended with the presentation of the impact of the project, both from the environmental point of view and from the socio-economic point of view and with the presentation of the integral waste management plan for the cork industry and public dissemination and comunication action implemented.
